I'm getting back into cycling and...? |
A while back I was a pretty avid cycler and I'm looking to get back into it. Right now I face two main problems. Any good pedal with CRMO spindles will not break. You didn't say what type of bike. At 6-4 you're tall but road and MTB are made for guys even taller. Your height is only part of the equation for fit but I'd ballpark a 60cm road frame or 20-21 MTB. Start there. Stop in at a few bike shops see how they fit - that's best. You cannot properly size or fit a bike based on your overall height and weight. A lot depends upon your other measurements, like relative torso length to inseam. Flexibility, or lack of it, will also influence bike fit and sizing. My advice is go to a reputable bike shop (not a Walmart) and have them try to size you and fit you to a bike. Then, take a demo ride. If it feels good--great! If not--keep shopping. Stay away from light weight parts or top end racing bikes--you are heavy and might break them. I cannot recommend a specific pedal, although many pedals designed for mountain biking and BMX are heavy duty and more resistant to breaking. Good luck! It really depends on what type of bike you want to get. If you get a road bike, you probably want to get a steel frame bike considering your weight (no offense). Here's a link to an article I wrote on bike sizing. I don't think you should probably get an aluminum, steel or titanium bike. go to a bike shop to get sized. you'll probably be looking at a 62 or 63 centimeter frame, or an XL. get some clipless pedals, ride until you lose about 50 and then you won't break anymore pedals. welcome back--enjoy |
