How do you take pedals off a bike? |
They are broken and need to be taken off but there is like no way to get the damn things off. Is theres a special tool to use? or an oil to get them off? I need help! A correct size wrench, and something to prevent the crank and rear wheel from spinning. You need a pedal wrench. I paid about $10 for mine at Performance. The right pedal twists counter-clockwise to loosen. The left pedal has a reverse thread, twisting clockwise to loosen. One technique that works well is to turn the bike upside down, resting on its seat and handlebar. Then you can push on the wrench and the pedal on the other side to generate the force you need. Be careful of the large chain ring on the outside. I've seen a number of guys get sliced up by the teeth on that ring when removing pedals. The correct size wrench is usually 15mm. You don't need a special pedal wrench in most cases. The right side is righty tighty, lefty loosey and the left one is lefty tighty, righty loosey. You will need a skinny 15mm wrench. |
