Shoe cleat question (eggbeater)?

I'm current restoring an old bike, ready for a touring holiday and I've come to the point where I need some clipless pedals - Toe-clips aren't going to cut it.

These look great:

Now, it mentions that it comes with the cleats. Am I right in thinking I would only be able to use MTB shoes with the cleats as I'll need to bolt/screw(?) them onto the sole.

Can anybody give me some advice on how this all works as I've never used them before, how to fit the cleat etc.

Also in the pic of the pedals, I can't actually see anywhere to fit a spanner to actually fit the pedals onto the crank...Is that right!?

Yes, you'll need mountain bike shoes that accept the cleats for these pedal. Eggbeaters are great. I am sure you'll be happy with them.

You don't use a spanner to tighten and loosen these pedals. They have an Allen (Hex) Key slot in the crank end. I think they take either a 6mm or 7mm allen wrench.

Best of luck!

The cleats come with the pedals. Get the SPD standard and you are set with shoes. The eggbeaters are omni-directional; you can clip in from any of the 4 'sides'...

To attach them you use an allen wrench, the wrench fits in to the end of the spindle were it threads into the crank.
