Biking from Ontario to B.C.? |
May 1st im planning to take my bake and pedal my butt from Ottawa, Ont. to Prince George, B.C. to visit my girl!! you should be able to do 100kms per day with out much problem. you do have to know that the wind blows out of the west and you will have a head wind to ride into all the way across the prairies and trust me when i say it really blows at times. take the Yellowhead Route as it goes through Edmonton and straight through Jasper then on to Prince George. you will want to stop in Edmonton and get some pepper spray because the number of bears (black and grizzly) is like pigeons in central park. another worry is cow moose. that time of the year they will have young with them and they are more vicious than a solitary bear. i have watched a cow moose total a jeep with it's front hooves in a matter of minutes. also don't count on making a lot of distance in the mountains because of the lower density of oxygen in the air because of the elevation. there are a lot of places that cell phones don't work west of Edmonton either because of ore bodies in the mountains or there is no infrastructure in place to make a cell work. Watch out in Manitoba they have a bunch of rednecks that will throw beer bottles at you UUUUmmmm....So almost 4000 clicks? And the last bit uphill? 4 or 5 months, maybe? It can take anywhere from two-four months depending on your skill level. Best to research it first and try to go with at least one other person for safety's sake. mik2222001 is right....It's a loooooooooooooooooong long trip 'bout 4,200km 'n it would take 42 days if you ride 100km per day....so you think you can do that? annnnd the cost would be like $500 (if you spend apprx $10 per day for food 'n beverages) good luck Whoah, it's going to take u quite a few days to bike to B.C, i highly recommend u don't bike there, you could get de-hydrated easily, due to the LONG distance to bike to. I recommend u try driving or take a plane there. Plus, it's winter which means snow and ice, which means u can very easily break a bone or serisouly injure urself. So for ur safety, pls don't bike to BC from Ontario. Drive there or take a plane to there. I'd say talk to as many "veterans" of same or similar experiences AT LENGTH, then you may decide it's not your cup of tea. |
