Whats on this guys bike that...? |
In this video he is going backwards without pedaling backwards. What does he have on his bike that allows him to do that? How much do one of these things cost (the part not the bike)? And is it compatible with a 2007 Haro F3? No, because on a regular bike you would have to peddle backwards if your bike is moving backwards. It is called a "Flatlanders Freecoaster Hub". They cost about $150 at you can purchase them at most high end BMX shops. Here is one from Dans Comp: http://www.danscomp.com/products.php?cat... i think it's called gravity... i think he just has goo dbalance and maybe a reverse Actually this question is better than it appears on the surface. if you would go backwards on my road bike the pedals would be turning backwards with the rotation of the wheel. (try turning the wheel backwards on a stand sometime!) The bmx must have some kind of coasting feature? Hopefully some of the guys with experience in bike shops will answer this. What goes up must come down. The answers on here are friggin hilarious "gravity" bwah ha ha. The reason that he doesn't need to pedal backwards is because of the freehub body in the rear hub/wheel. It has a one-way clutch similar to that of a regular freehub, but it works on a one way cam mechanism rather than ratchet and pawl. Basically the pawl works with mechanical interference, pawl in a groove, clickity clickity clickity, and this works by applying a radial compressive force caused by cams and drives on friction. When you back pedal balls in the cam roll down in the cam grooves and no radial force is produced hence you can freecost backwards. I believe true precision makes a hub (not 100% sure) and Chosen which is a taiwanese company. They weigh more, but are dead silent. Kimber is right, it's a freecoasting hub. As you've seen they let you ride backwards without pedaling and they're getting pretty popular in the bmx street scene. If you can't ride fakie normally (pedaling backwards) I doubt a freecoaster is going to make you somehow learn to do it. On top of that they aren't cheap and I know the geisha hubs are pretty high maintenance. sorrry i don't know anything One Word: Freecoaster. |
