Bike measuring?

iseen a article on a mag about four weeks ago all about bike fitting . it showed a piece of string been held at the nose of the seat attached too a pin ball which hung almost to the ground an it said to measure from centre of crank back to the line but it gave no meaurments . can any of you guys help me . it for my friend he about 5 foot 6 inches 29 leg . AN he rides a small giant 46.5 frame .HE said it could be important for gettin power in ur bike while seated an trying to pedal hard an holding the hoops .

I believe what they were referring to is how to find the correct saddle height. Here is a link with a good image to follow,

save the bother and get a motor!

You have just got to ride your own bike and decide at what level your seat is comfortable.

At what seat height do you feel you have the most power?

The reason they don't give you any measurements is that you have to find them out for yourself.

Just ride and find out!

My bike is measured in cc's lol ( a lot of them)

What the mag article was on about was the distance from the point of the saddle to the centre of the bottom bracket where the cranks are fitted. This is a size you would note when you have the correct fore and aft position of your saddle. To get a correct starting position try this site www.coloradocyclist.com/bikefit/ but remember these are starting positions and small alterations may need to be made. Hope that helps.

go down to your local bike dealer and they will be able to help you get the proper fitting for your bike.

Kipper is right. You can measure it yourself here.....http://www.coloradocyclist.com/bikefit/
Or you can go to a bike shop for a fitting. They usually charge between $25.00 to $200.00 for a pro fit (US Dollars.)
The most important thing is frame size. You can check this by measuring inseam length. If your "friend" has an inseam on 29 inches, then the proper frame frame size is 49cm. He needs a new frame. Even if he raises the seat to the proper height, his top tube will probably too short. You can usually walk in to a bike shop and tell them you want a new bike but are not sure what size frame. They will usually give you a quick size up for free. Make sure it's a real bike shop and not a Wal-mart or Target.
