How do I take off a bicycle pedal arm? |
Also does anyone have any good bike sites too where it shows the details of bikes? While a crank puller works fine there is, indeed one other way that I like better. I use self-extracting crank bolts. The cost is 9 to 15 bucks and work great. They also eliminate the need for a special tool. You simply replace standard crank bolts with these. You use a hex wrench to extract your crank as you loosen the crank bolt. It actually works better than a crank extractor. I think that you are talking about a crank arm. You have to take off the peddle on the opposite side of the sprocket with a wrench 9/16 or a 5/8.Then near the sprocket there will be a big nut. You going to have to use a adjustable wrench to take that off, behind that is a washer that is slides in a groove. Take that out and there will be the ball bearings. Then on the other side you have to do the same thing but you do not have to take that peddle off nest to the sprocket because the peddle arm is all one peace with the sprocket in most cases it is. What Gravity said. With a SPECIAL TOOL made specifically to remove crank arms. NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK!!! You could try a bearing puller, but you'd scratch your cranks. Don't even think about a pry-bar or large screwdriver! |
