Clipless peddles? |
i am thinking of switching to clipless peddles on my road bike. i have no clue of cleat patterns or pedals. any info would be great. i currently ride about 100 miles per week and know that clipless pedals would increase my overall speed. but i am really thinking about switching to reduce severe foot pain that i am causing myself from instilling to much force on the ball of my foot while riding Make the switch, you will be glad you did. For most cyclist the Look style pedal works the best. I have the new Look Keo and so far I like them. I had older model Time pedals and they were harder to clip into than the Looks. If you do a lot of walking, you might want to go with mountain-bike style pedals, also called spd pedals. I have Time ATAC on my mountain-bike and really like them. Shimano makes nice spd style pedals. Just always remember to unclip before you come to a complete stop or you will fall over. They take a little getting used to but are definitely worth have. The shoes are a lot stiffer and better suited to riding. Sometimes you can find a good deal on EBay. Just take some time and watch a few auctions to get a feel on price. check out the links- pedals explained. have fun! http://www.his.com/~aidsridedc/lk-pedals... this one has pics of the pedals, which is handy before you buy. http://texomacyclingcenter.com/page.cfm?... ps- I use look. To me, they offer the widest foot platform, and are quite ergonomic. take the plunge to clipless pedals, you will thank yourself that you did. you should look at a pedal company called KEO they make really high quality pedals, that are light and user friendly. do not bargin hunt for shoes, a high quality shoe is a must for comfort. www.jensonusa.com I don't have any specific brand recommendations (well, I do, but I'll just share my opinion for now), but I agree with the other two answers -- you will not regret the switch! You will increase your power because you will be able to pull up on the upstroke rather than only having your efforts benefit the downstroke. Also, clipless pedals and shoes are ergonomically designed to yield the most efficient pedal stroke possible. Once you adjust, you will never believe that you used to ride without them! Good luck. Personal experience. |
