Clipless shoes/cleats for road bikes? |
just wondering what brands of clipless pedal/shoes you use for road bikes? i have used shimono I use shimano SL pedals and Carnac shoes!!!!!!!1 Source(s): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bicyclingh... brand doesn't really matter...what does matter is compatability, do you want Time, SPD's, Looks, or other types? Look or Time for racing (because of the more supportive body structure-you can stand up and hammer), SPD's for training (because you can buy shoes with recessed cleats so that you can walk around easier, or commute to work or whatever). there are plenty of good choices in a range of price points, if you're shopping. buy the shoes first, then pedals that work well with those. me, I've always been a fan of Time since before Look copied them, they're still IMO the best pedals. The shoes may not be market leaders and are priced high, but they fit my big feet well. If you're not a racer type, try flat spd's w/ mtb shoes or walkable road shoes, they work great for casual riding. Also, in summer for long touristy-type rides, I put on SPD sandals, they aren't the best power transfer but that's not the point of riding in sandals. I've always used LOOK pedals. I have 30,000 miles on 1 pair.....thru rain and even some snow without any problems. LOOK debuted clipless pedals to the cycling world back in the early 80's, as well as creating quality bindings for downhill skis.....the prelude to the clipless cycling pedal. Their history and innovation ( many knees appreciate their "floating" cleats ) continue to this day as many "new idea" pedals fall by the roadside. First: Most shoes are compatible with most pedal systems. Second: Brand does matter. There are differences between shimano/campagnolo/look, and time, and speedplay, and Crank Brothers. I find that shimano SPD-SL/campagnolo/look are basically the same in function. I think the Time are an acquired taste. Time and speedplay make no bones about being for serious riders (although both have tried to be more practical). Third: I've used almost all of them except for the Crank Brothers and Shimano. I like the Speedplay X-Series the best and use them currently, but will readily admit that it is a personal preference. My current favorite shoe is the Carnac Quartz but I have coveted a pair of Rocket 7s. http://www.rocket7.com/shoes.htm... http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fusea... |
