Get a 07 Trek Pilot 2.1 WSD at $1350 or ride out the summer? |
So for the last month I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off looking at bikes, Im having a hard time, I'm a guy looking for a 47cm bike and its nearly impossible at any rate, and I've finally found one I really like, I originally expected to pay 1100 for it but on the website thats what they listed the 06 model at, and sure enough they dont have one. The lowest price I can get for the 07, I've shopped quite a lot, is 1350, a bit more than I was looking to pay in the beggining but we'll see, the bike has a ZR9000 aluminum frame, carbon fork, carbon seat stays, 20 spoke bontrager select wheels in front, 24 in back, shimano 105 shifters and front derailer, ultegra derailer in rear, carbon seat post, and pedals ready for slip shoes. Just not sure if this is a fair price for what I'm getting or if I should just wait around for the 2008 models to roll out. Besides the fact that the '08 models will likely cost more, Treks are pretty much all on sale right now, especially the '07 Trek Madones. Also, no Trek dealer can ship you a bike, Trek requires their dealers only deliver bikes in-store. Additionally, as Anomaly 17 stated, a Trek with the letters WSD (Women's Specific Design) added to the name is a bike specifically made for female anatomical structure, and therefore much more difficult to find, especially in a 47cm. If you are not in fact looking for a WSD model, you might have a much easier time finding a bike. The links below should get you to dealer websites (if the specific dealer has a site), where you can then check their stock, kind of, or at least get their number. I did find an '07 Trek Pilot 2.1 for $1099, but it's not a 47cm, and it's not WSD, but just so you can see where prices should be: http://treksandiego.com/itemdetails.cfm?... They have a 47, but the price: yikes!: http://tri-sport.com/itemdetails.cfm?id=... Hope something in this response helps! Source(s): Big Deal sale dealer locator: http://locator.trekbikes.com/?intro=big_... Regular dealer locator: http://locator.trekbikes.com/?lan=en&cou... You do know the WSD is for women, right? You sound like someone who is on the small (read short) side. If that is the case, then $1350 for the WSD bike is pretty reasonable. If you wait until the 08 models, then the price will certainly go up, unless you are hoping to grab an 07 model on closeout, but typically, that only goes for models in the extreme end of sizing. The Pilot is a pretty solid bike. Well worth the money. Looking for a sub 50cm frame is tough. WSD is fine most are only female saddle and shorter stem. One thing you likely want is a sloping top tube (Pilot has a slightly sloping tube I think) this will help a lot. I highly suggest looking on Ebay. Even if you don't buy, you can view road bikes by size etc. It's a great way to find models and brands to fit. I bought a Cannondale R2000, 2002 model year, in great shape for under $800 shipped! It retailed for $2400 new. There are typically 2500 road bikes on sale at any given time - even during the winter. At 5' 8" I need a 50 to 53cm bike and that's not that easy so I understand your frustration. Also, don't rule out 650c wheeled bikes. |
