Crank set price? |
i just purchased a road bike with a set of shimano cranks. anyway the hole where the pedal meets the crank became wallered out and now i think i need new cranks. about how much do a cheap set of shimano cranks run.(entry level cranks) i want cheaper ones bacause i will most likely get a new bike in 6 or so months. I would like a rough total with install. Shimano makes 77 different kinds of cranks with 4 different methods of attachment to the bottom bracket (axle). If you could provide the make and model of bike along with the year it would go a long way in identifying which crank it is. Even more helpful would be a picture of the "drive side" (side with the sprockets) of the crank. Source(s): 27 years in the industry there is a recall on the shimano cranks right now. you can call shimano at 1-800-353-4719 to arrange for a free replacement and installation at a local authorized repair shop. www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/pr... or just type in shimano cranks on your search engine to find this other wise a basic shimano crank will run you for a shimano FcM341 crank will run you $32.00 and about $50.00 in labor cost. you should be able to do it for less than $100, but i would call on this recll first then its free and you probably wont get this low end crank. The only place I would buy parts if possible is EBay. I've bought well over 40 cycling items, including my lastest bike on there. You could get 105 or other similar models for $10 to $25 or so used $49 new. Truvativ, FSA etc. also have cheap but good models as well. I just looked under: Home> Buy> Sporting Goods> Cycling> Road Bikes & Parts> Parts & Accessories> Cranksets & Bottom Brackets on Ebay they have 790 Crank items for sale now. Just make sure you know what type Cranks you need for you type bottom bracket. Go to this site: www.chainreactioncycles. You can get hollowtec II LX for about 拢50 - 拢60. Failing that, if you want reasonable and cheap, try Truvative. Which side? Primary side is the one with all of the chain-rings. The off primary side is the other one. The off primary side is a much easier fix. You indicate that the threaded whole the pedal goes in is damaged. However, Im inclined to believe that you meant the connection to the spindle. Either way, the off primary side crank arm can be replaced for less than $15 if you are not picky about having a Shimano arm. As long as the arms are the same length, and connect to the BB spindle the same, you can run it. It does not have to be Shimano, and the less expensive Sugino that you will likely find at the corner bike shop for 5 bucks, is way better alloy anyway. There is a special tool required to remove the crank arms. The cost of which will be about equal to the labor cost for a one time replacement. If you plan on having similar trouble, buy the tool and recieve some instruction in its use from the counter help. Replacing the primary side crank arm is much more involved, as chain-ring bolt patterns vary a bit and you might have to replace the whole set-up. Best to take that in for a professioal's touch. |
