Mountain bike
*Vultures Knob>>>Bike Pedals

Bought a bicycle it's old but in good condition. It's a single speed, problem?

You have to pedal about three times before it engages and the bike starts to move. Also the coaster brake doesn't grab until you peddle backwards as many times. Someone said to adjust the coaster brake. Any experts out there?

Not an expert on coaster hubs but there's a good reference here with good diagrams:

Having mended several Sturmey Archer hubs, it's usually that the hub needs a good clean and oil in appropriate places. Just take your time and lay things out as you take it apart in the order you take them off then reverse the order. If you've not got a good diagram take lots of digiral pics of it first. These old hubs were usually well over engineered and will last forever if properly maintained.

However, I'd like to ride a bike with proper gears and definately modern brakes! I like going but I prefer stopping in an emergency!

Have fun and good luck!
