2001 GT I-Drive compared to 2006 I-Drive?

I am a huge fan of the GT I-Drive system. I love that my pedaling is separate from my suspension and when pedaling over mutiple roots I'm not affected. Can anyone comment on the current GT I-drive cross country bikes? I'm 39 and have been mountain bikng for 11 years. There's tons of bike's out there but I'm sold on the I-Drive technology but it's extremely hard to find one in a bike shop to test ride.

Sorry!!!!!!! Their Crap, move on please. Source(s): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bicyclingh...
I'm going to have to disagree with Chris C there...They are NOT crap...anyway...

I am currently riding a 2003 GT I-drive 0.0 frame and I love it. Here's the deal though: I had a 2001 I-drive 2.0 and the frame welding failed at the seat mast...not while riding though. This was
a common issue with the XCR GT I-drives and I think that the 2001 I-drive frames were plagued with this issue as well. I got to Japan and found a GT dealer and told him the situation. $400 and a week later, he had a beautiful 2003 I-drive frame waiting on me. No problems ever since!! As far as the 2006 models...I haven't had a chance to demo them, but the guy at the bike shop that hooked me up demo'd the 2005 models last year and said that he really liked it. He didn't buy one though because he is a hardtail type guy...but he does still have a carbon fiber GT STS-1 that he rides on our "technical" outings.
