*Vultures Knob>>>Bike Pedals

I bought a bicycle last week and when I got home and went 4 a ride, I noticed a clicking sound?

This sound only happens when I pedal, but when I get off the bike and move the petals manually, I don't hear the sound at all so I'm just assuming they have something to do with me being on the bike and me pedalling. Does anyone know what this sound is, what is causing it and how to fix it? I thought it could be due to the bike not being in gear, but I don't believe that is the case.

Static is some what right and somewhat wrong. The clicking sound comes from the rear d茅railleur. What is causing it is that the cable tension is not correct thereby causing the derrailleur to be off like it is going to shift to either a higher or lower gear. A way to prevent this is when assembling a bike (if you *anyone* reading this is a bike shop) is to pre-stress the cables then adjusting the derrailleur. Since you *specifically* are not a bike shop, you might be able to turn the barrel adjuster located at the back of the rear derrailleur. However, if you have never done this, then you may want to take the bike to a bike shop. If you bought your bike at a shop, they should be able to perform this for free, if not for a minimal cost. (most good shops do this for free, because the cables loosen within the first 30 days of riding and this is expected) If you bought your bike at a "big box store" *Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc. Immediately take it to a bike shop and have them repair the bike. I can almost guarantee that your bike is not safe, and there are more issues than just this clicking noise. I have found brakes that are not working properly, handlebars that are loose, wheels that are not put on correctly to name a few. "Big Box Store" bikes are assembled by non-professionals who do not know how to properly assemble bikes for the most part, and are generally assembled unsafely. Unfortunately for the consumer, they do not know this, and continue to ride on an unsafe bike until they ruin parts or worse yet have an accident. This is when I usually see that person and have to educate them :) I hope this helps! Source(s): http://www.blackbarbicycles.com... we do repairs!
I just bought a bike too. does the same thing. If you have a rear spring on your bike its that. It's not used to your weight being on it. If it wasn't in gear it would do it all the time.
the clicking is the freewheel on your back rim, its completly natural, all bikes make a clicking sound
