Back brakes for my bike?

On my bike when you pedal backwards it just spins. I want to change it so when I pedal backwards it brakes or locks the rear tire up... how do I do that? what part do I need to change?

It's a 3 wheel bicycle if that makes any difference

just like Chris said...coaster brakes are so annoying and really quite childish. The only adult sized bikes those kind of brakes are on are cruisers just to prevent any cable problems. Plus I'm not quite sure a coaster brake would even work with a 3-wheeler b/c only the one wheel with the cassette would stop causing you to flip to one side. what kind of tricycle is this exactly?
you could do two things
get a coaster brake which is mainly for children and are really quite annoying
or get a fixed gear bicycle and you cant stop pedaling or the back wheel stops spinning
why do you want this anyway?!?!?!?!
its so annoying to stop and all of a sudden screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech
no more movement
dont get one
just keep pedaling
youll hate a coaster break they suck
honestly
just go with what you have
when you stop pushing you stop moving yourself forward
dont get a coaster break
its only for little kids who cant handle using a hand break
please give more details of your bike in order for us to answer.
there are so many types of three wheelers out there..
different design would definitely require different solution..
what you're talking about is a pedal brake (i think that's what it's called). you cant install the brake by urself, take it to a bike shop and tell them that you want to install it on.

best of luck
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to install a COASTER BRAKE in a trike. Let me try and explain...

I assume that your bike has 1 front wheel and 2 rear wheels.

The pedals drive a chain to a rear "differential". This drives only ONE of the rear wheels.

If this differential has 5 speeds or more then installing a coaster brake is next to impossible due to the requirements of the shifting.

If the bike is a single speed or 3 speed it MIGHT be possible to change the hub on the differential, but this will take a mechanic that understands this type of hub to do it, and they will likely want to look at the bike before they commit.

Having a rear brake on a trike will not provide any real stopping power since there is so little force on the back wheels so it really isn't necessary that a trike have a rear brake. There is virtually no danger of flipping the bike over. If you are having problems stopping safely just have the front brake upgraded.
