Why do some people think it's a good idea to ride a bike wearing flip-flops?? |
I frequently see adults bicycling in flip-flops. I can't think of a worse shoe for bicycling. There's no grip on the bottom to keep your foot on the pedal, and even if it grips, your foot could slip right out of the shoe. The flip-flop wearers usually aren't wearing helmets either. i doubt people wear them on purpose or even think that wearing them is bad, i mean i know this one kid who lost part of his toe while on a bike wearing flip-flops, but i'm guessing most people either don't know the danger, don't care, or are too lazy to put on shoes i think its comfy for them my mom wouldn't let me ride my bike unless i had closed toe shoes on because biking is supposed to be about joy and fun, not pain and tears... flip flops are fun. helmets are for suckers, studies have shown that helmets can actually increase your chances of getting injured in certain falls. addittionally, here is a fun fact for you. today there are fewer cyclists in america than 30 years ago. only about 15% of them in the 70's wore helmets, today about 80% do and yet there are more head injury fatalities in cycling today than in the 70's... with fewer cyclists wearing more helmets. Some people are not very intelligent. luckily the only people I see wearing those are on beach style cruisers around the beach area... and yes, it is very unsafe. they are not going that fast, and they usually don't wear a helmet either, so whatever they want to do is OK as long as they stay away from me! Your question is so funny when I read the ? I cracked up laughing, just the thought of someone riding on a bike with flip flops on is hilarious and no helmet that speaks volumes alone. They don't care that's why. LOL!!!!! |
