Bicycle's design?

1)what make a bicycle's pedal not rotate when you push it forward but the pedal rotate when you push it backward? why is necesssary to design it in such a way?

do you mean you can turn the pedals backwards, but if you push it forewards it will drive the wheels?

this is true in other than track bikes where the hub is locked to the chain and will not freewheel.

for most people it is much more comfortable to not have to pedal all the time while bicycling

if you wanted an engineering project, you could make the chain cross in an X so you would pedal backwards only to make a bicycle go forewards. it would not have any advantage other than looking strange. and the front derailer would not work.
its the sc.macmillan karpatric who invented it ........

it has a ratchet mechanism in cycles back wheel. also said as free wheel.

when ur not pedalling u can keep ur leg on these pedals at rest.

or else ur legs will be pedalled by the cycle.
