Why do you have to push harder on the pedals of certain bikes?

Why do you have to push harder on the pedals of a single speed bicycle to start it moving with a constant velocity?

Its in the ratio of the gear on the pedal to the gear on the wheel. A single speed bike is going to try and achieve a balance of attaining a top speed and also being able to start pedaling. So you don't get the best of either.
the age of the tires your weight the distance of the poles that hold the tires the chain the ground the angle you are riding at the air pressure
It depends on the size of the gear wheel & sprocket. Larger gearwheel & smaller sprocket = more energy. This combination is designed for speed so it will feel harder when pedalling.
gear ratio for a smaller gear to turn a larger gear you need more force
