Can squirrels eat bike pedals? |
I just overheard a story a woman just told about squirrels eating the pedals of her bicycle. I think this is BS...but maybe I'm wrong, since I don't know much about squirrels. So nature people: what do you think? If the pedals were plastic, then squirrels could eat them. Ground squirrels eat certain vegetables and field crops at seedling stage. Squirrels damage young shrubs, vines, and trees by gnawing bark, girdling trunks, eating twigs and leaves, and burrowing around roots. About 10 years ago we caught sight of a squirrel climbing out from underneath our Jeep 4 x 4. When we checked the engine we found that the little *&%拢$&* had eaten all the rubber hose parts, electical insulation and just about everything that wasn't metal! It's entirely possible. Squirrels and other rodents love to chew things. From what I understand they like the texture of the material they are chewing, not necessarily the nutritional value. I once had a mouse chew all the buttons off a TV remote control. Squirrels are related to rodents in having front teeth that do not stop growing. They gnaw all kinds of things to wear their teeth down. It is possible they gnawed the plastic, vinyl or rubber parts of bike petals. If her bike pedals were made of nuts, it is possible. Maybe if there is rubber on the pedals. |
