Can you help me solve this math problem? |
The gear ratio of a bicycle relates the number of wheel turns to pedal turns.A bicycle with a gear ratio of 3 means that the wheels go around 3 times everytime the pedals go around 1 time.If a wheel of such a bicycle is 1.8m around, how far will the bicycle go in 25 turns of the pedal? Think about it a bit. If the wheels go round three times for every time the pedals go round, and the pedals go round 25 times, then the wheels must go round 75 times, right? If you want to do it in ratios, then the ratio is 3:1 for the wheels to the pedals. 3:1 = x:25 x = 75 Then you just multiply 75 times the circumference of the wheels to find how far the bike travels... 75 * 1.8 = 135 m What grade is this for? 25x3=75 1.8 x 25 = 45..........45x x is the diameter of the bike tire., never mind, i I misunderstood the question. The wheel goes around three times (3 x 1.8m) for each turn of the pedals. So 25 pedal turns is 25x3x1.8m = 135 m. 1.8 x 3 x 25 = 135m. For every one turn of the pedal, you get three turns of the wheel. So, for every pedal turn, you get 1.8m, 3 times. (3 x 1.8). Now, turn the pedal 25 times, and you will get the distance. (25 x previous answer). Hope that helps. |
