What is the difference between "sealed" and "unsealed" bike pedals?

I found bike pedals and they said both sealed and unsealed... i needed to know the difference between the two. If you could help id very much apreciate it. Thanks! :)

I disagree with the board here. Sealed bearings basically mean that dirt and water are unable to penetrate to the pedal bearings. Many of these are catridge type bearings that you can replace easily. In most cases these are preferable.
Sealed means the bearings are sealed in the pedal thus making sure no dirt and junk mess it up. Unsealed well is exposed.

Sealed usually will last longer and are better quality.
They are referring to sealed bearings or unsealed bearings. Unsealed is always better. It means dirt and grime will have a tougher time getting in the grease. Your pedals were turn smoother for a longer time.
The difference between 'sealed' and 'unsealed' is that the 'sealed' bearings are covered by a cover and the bearings cannot be reached by water, grime, dirt, etc. Which means that they last longer. Unsealed bearings have no seal whatsoever and is more likely to be exposed to water, grime, dirt, etc. This means that the bearings will rust/corrode.
