I am a fit and healthy 70 years old man who has recently married a wonderful 65 year old lady. We both lost?

of long time mates in 2004. We walk three miles or so just about every morning, and then I ride my bike for an hour or so. I want to buy her a new bike so she can join me. She is afraid that it will be too hard to ride and too hard to learn the proper gear systems. I have what I think is called a "cross", bike , which I think is a cross between a regular old time bike and a "racing" bike. I love it. What kind of bike should I get for her? It must be VERY EASY to ride and pedal, with a confortable seat. Money is not much of a problem, but I doubt that I would pay $1,000.00 for one. Speed will never be important. Just slow comfortable riding is my goal. What kind of bike should I get for her?

Congratulations! That's great. Riding is an enjoyable activity. She may prefer a low cut down tube, so it's easy to get on and off. The Trek Navigator is good and Raleigh has a similar model, you can purchase these at a bike shop. Or I highly recommend Forge Bicycles Athena M or V. These are all aluminum, good components and the prices are fantastic. http://www.forgebikes.com

Enjoy the sport together! Source(s): Work in a bike shop. Biked for many years.
Get a bicycle built for two!

Congrats on finding love again and Good for you for getting out and being active!!
take her with you to a knowledgeable bicycle shop so she can sit on a few and see what she is comfortable with.

you can also try to get her one of the large trikes that may give her more of a feeling of stability if she is afraid of falling

as far as the gears go, you may just have to adjust your riding speed until she can get the hang of them and then with any luck - you'll be chasing her!

It's great that you are so active and youthful
That's wonderful that you've found each other and you're ready to share riding with her. My advice is to go to your local bike shop and have her ride as many bikes as possible until she finds one she feels comfortable on. If you explain what you are, and are not, looking for the staff should be able to point you in the right direction. I would guess a comfort bike is just what she needs-comfortable and easy to use. Good luck!
It sounds like you have a bike that is also known as a "hybrid" or sometimes, a "suburban hybrid". Where you ride (terrain) is key to what kind of bike you and she need. You'd be better off talking to someone at a local quality bicycle shop and actually trying out bicycles to see what fits and works. The hybrid is a fine general-purpose bike if she doesn't mind learning to shift. If she doesn't want to shift and you have few hills, try a "comfort" or "cruiser" type bike. Automatic transmissions for bicycles are not considered flawless, yet, but a Land Rider bicycle might be worth trying, if you can find a way to sample one.

If osteoporosis is in the picture, maybe bicycling is not a good choice, because there is always some risk of high impact falls.
