Question about my Trek Alpha 4300 w/ Discs? |
I have had my bike for a couple of years, and my brakes seem to be weak. I am a teenager, and I admit I do a lot of "skidding" with my bike. I had the discs replaced once, and that was over a year ago. Do the pads need replacing? Do the disks need replacing too? Another problem I have is the left pedal falls off. No matter how hard I tighten the bolt, the pedal will eventually fall off. I have had that replaced too, and it has happened again. Is there something I can do to fix these problems? Thanks for you help and concern. I have a 2002 4300 with rim brakes, and first of all disk brakes on a 4300 will not be super brakes. You might have been better off with rims. Instead of replacing this and stuff I reccomend you buy new, better disc brakes...either the Avid BB5, or if you want the best, the BB7. Hayes makes a nice one too, but the rotor should be fine. As for the left pedal, hm. maybe it's something with the theading. the threading is reversed on the left, and if it is loose, it should lock itself back in because of the rotational movement ( I think lol.) Im guessing it could be the crank arm, and the threading inside. Maybe buy new crankarms, but that might be harder to find. Hope this helps. Could be worn pads. Check the wear indicator or take them out and have a look at them. As for the pedal. Only use a pedal spanner for this. Failing that, bung some threadlock on it (Liquid threadlock from most car suppliers.) Your Alpha 4300 is a very good bike. If those things are happening you arent using it for what its meant for at all. Use it on smooth street, but its meant completely for dirt and off-road. After all it is a mountain bike... |
