Why is my cassete wobbling? |
i recently purchased a specialized s-works road bike the one with the Gerolsteiner paint job, it has full dura-ace ten speed gruopo and when i pedal the cassettes wobbles and i can not figure out why, curently i am running my bontrager race x lite wheels on the bike, i have a set of mavic wheels but they always feel like they will break under my weight, anyways any suggestions or shops to go to in the sacramento area that will be able to fix my problem, also i have had the cassette off and it seems like all the spacers are there. (uncleneal im hoping you will come through for me too) Maybe the cassette lockring is loose. It is easy to tighten but you need a chain whip, Shimano cassette tool and a wrench. If you don't have these, take it to a shop. Bad bearings. if the cassette is OK, then maybe the freewheel or hub is going bad... can you try the cassette on the other wheelset and see what happens? otherwise, take it to a local bike shop (I don't know of any in Sacramento because I have never ridden there) there should be a few good ones up there by the way, nice bike! Cassettes will always wobble, just as freewheels have always wobbled. There is nothing wrong with your system, instead it is because it is virtually impossible to machine things so perfectly on all mating surfaces to avoid it. Now, there will be a noticeable difference in this between cheap stuff and expensive stuff, and even between 2 bicycles equipped the same way, and it won't hurt a thing. 26 years in the industry. There is usually some wobble in the cassette. If there is any noise or trouble with shifting...just take it into a shop. As for the Mavics...they are probably ksyrium ES's. Very few problems with the wheels. There are a few broken spokes from the riders who are on there bike everyday. With that kind of money in a bike, you need to make yourself familiar around at least one shop. |
