Any ideas on how to keep my motorcycle from being stolen? |
I live in a second floor apartment and I recently bought a motorcycle. I have a plain black cover on it, with a motorcycle lock as well. When not in use I lock the handel bars as well. In the past few days I have noticed, the first day: a man walked past, stopped, and checked out the bike and as he was walking away still looking at it...a couple days later two men and a woman stopped about 100 feet away from it, started talking, then walked past it, stopped at it and was checking it out, and the next day at 11:30 p.m. a crotch rocket came down the parking lot (I live at a dead end, so there is no reason for people to come down here unless you live here) stopped at the bike for about 30 seconds, checked it out, then drove off. Now to me, that's telling me something is up and people are looking to steal my bike or do something with it....any ideas on how to keep it safe. I was thinking about a camcorder up in my window and having it on all day or Lojack, but I can't afford that right now go to wallmart and buy a couple of bike locks the combinations ones buy at least two one for each wheel the more locks the better , get friendly with the people in your building keep an eye out for each other A large, heavy gaged elevated chain which is run through the bike frame and rear tire and attached to a stationery post should suffice. By elevating the chain, bolt cutter would be very difficult to manipulate since there would be no surface on which one can leverage one end of the bolt cutters. Again, avoid a heavy gaged cable since it can easily be cut through with a portable power saw. what kind of bike is it.... it would all depend on brand i suppose, but i have a red&white supporter sticker on mine.... most in the know have more brains than to f*ck with a red&white's bike... i'm not a member but it works for me.... go see a local hell's angels member and see if their club has support stickers.... of course sticking that kind of sticker on a crotch rocket or something will just make you look like a boob Put garbage cans around it, a thief would have to make noise in order to get to it. you probably just have a really good looking bike.. i always look at bikes in a parking lot for like 5 minutes because i have nothing better to do. lol Make it look like crap? =P No, even that doesn't work. My bike is older and instead of stealing parts and the like, people are always taking the bolts! >.< Get a good lock and chain, disc lock and lockable bike cover.Try and chain the bike to something, and sleep with the window open. a t v camera is not going to stop anybody. you have to be more creative. Wher do you live?? maybe i can get in in my pick up. i suggest getting an alram they run about 100$ Get an alarm system for it? Move it to another location? Not much you can do to deter a thief. THe only way that is a 100% sure is to not have one tie a big hungry vicious dog to it a little paranoid are we Two men can steal a sport bike very quickly. Use a heavy, coated, motorcycle cable lock and lock the bike to a carport post or a gate. You should tie down the bike to something strong, because even if they cant start it they will try to push it, pull it, roll it, drag it, whatever. A strong chain around the rear subframe, and another around the front fork. This must also be anchord to somthing strong, like the bottem of stair rails, but in a position that it cant be shimied out of place. Lojack, does not keep the bike from being stolen, it does not let you know if its being tampered with like an alarm. All Lojack does is help authorities find your bike after its been stolen, ie, after theyve stripped it down of everything. Best bet, keep it tied behind a gate, or pay for parking, thats what i do and it works for me. YES Bike thieves are notorious for finding ways around your many bike locks, alarms, etc.. If they want your bike badly enough it can be done in as fast as 60 seconds. |
