Bike lock- trying to unlock an old lock?

i have an old 5 digit bike lock. it one of those chain link ones with the coloured plastic tubing around. I have two that ive forgotten the combination to.

can i unlock them?

Sometimes on the really cheap ones, you can pull on each end of the cable/chain while working the first digit of the combo. It has to be the first one on the side where the male end enters the lock housing. With the cheapie locks, when you get the right digit the lock will usually very slightly separate, then you go to the second digit. You may be able to get it open that way....then be sure to write down the combination. On better combination locks, the tolerances are tighter and this method won't work at all.

(side note: this info is offered as a service to honest people. If you try to steal someone's bike with this advice, I hope you get run over by a rabid pack of angry cyclists who are all using studded snow tires.)

Hey
Dude if your strong this should be no problem. i had one of those for about three years for my crappy bike. when i finally saved up enough to buy a jump bikes i was destroying my crappy bike with my friends and he broke the lock with his bear hands. (he was 13). so if he could you should be able to as well. (give it a couple of whcks with a hammer if its to hard with your hands)

Yep It's really easy, precisely why I would advise you not to bother if you are hoping to use them to lock up your bike again!
I don't like to educate people on how to defeat locks, there are already enough people out there with the skill to get past these crappy locks, and the thought that I might be enabling someone to steel prevents me from passing on this info, so what I will give you is GOOD ADVISE! through them out and get yourself a real lock!

This one isn't too bad!

Hey, so I don't know about getting the old one off, but when you do you should invest in a really good bike lock. Some great ones are at A&J's and their website is http://www.bike-locks.com .
