How can I secure my inner-ctiy backyard fence from being jumped? It's 6ft high wood fence. Any ideas?

I can't put barbed wire up, but I'd like something discrete to discourage people from jumping it. I've already had my bike stolen (yes I know I should of locked it), and yesterday I caught a person looking in my windows before I chased him out.

The 6ft is a city regulation, so I can't build it higher. I border a doggy park, so at night I get people roaming the park looking for things..

Please don't tell me to move :) not an option.. just want to discourage people from jumping the wood fence.

thanks for your suggestions..

Well, I had the same problem and got a dog :)

However, if that's not an option for you, you can either glue sharp tacks on the top of the pickets or plant some of that nasty pyracantha along the fenceline where people are jumping over.

You might even call the city and explain what's happening as a result of their park. Perhaps they'd be willing to work with you in planting pyracantha on their side.

i would get a pit bull first but if you cant do that, other suggestions would be adding 2ft of framed lattes on top of existing fence.this is allowed by the city.you can buy it already framed at your local home center(home depot).other suggestion would be to get some plywood and drive large nails into one side and lay it down at base of fence nails side up.(like those guys that lay on a bed of nails),that way when someone jumps over your fence at night and they land on the bed of nails they wont return.

I do like tha axle grease answer but you'll probably get sued for that one if some one slips and breaks a bone. So how about some sticky tar type stuff that'll make their hands black and hard to clean off (you'll know if they had a hand on your window or door or the neighbors). SOmething like that or the grease to make them pull back their hands. The tar stuff can protect the wood from the weather as well. talk to a hardware store of a fencing outfit for other suggestions.

without encasing yourself in a bubble, you will either have to move to a safer neighborhood, start a neighborhood watch, secure your belongings, and/or install a security system.

Get a needy dog from the pound, he will return the favor by guarding your yard by barking.

Why don't you just put an electric barbed wire across the top of the fence? :P

wipe axle grease al across the top of the fence
