Buying a new Toyota...Yaris, Scion, or Corolla?

I am in the market for a new Toyota. My first and only car these past nine years has been a 2000 Toyota Corolla CE. Now I've got almost 110,000 miles on it, and I want to get something new. My main concerns are gas mileage, room in the trunk, and (of course) price.

I've been really interested in cars that have the fold-flat backseats for extra trunk room. I'd love to have a car with a high enough roof to actually fit a bike in the trunk (with the seats folded down), but I know that isn't possible with the Corolla. However, I know the Corolla gets great gas mileage and it's a reliable car. The Yaris has lower HP, plus I can see how the price could get to the same level as a Corolla if you start adding extras (I want power windows/locks, a stereo with a CD player, an alarm system, etc).

The Scions look good, too, especially the new xD, but I've never really gotten to look inside one. Also, I know they can be expensive. I would like to spend around $15k. What do you think?

The new Scion XB 2008 it's a little more what you would want to pay, it would cost about 15,995 MSRP (give or take).. but it would have the camry engine 2.7 liter..(MPG 30 to 40) the hight and the length sould make a good fit to put a medium size bike in the back when the seats is folded down... if all else you can buy one of those after market bike holders that attach to the back of your car.

I would have suggested the Yaris Liftback, but the amount you would have to put in for all the Locks and stereo and alarm system.. all around air bag system (yep its an option... this shouldn't be but you have to pay for it) ABS... all this would probably add up to about 14,995 or 15,995 depending on what package you get. Its alot smaller then the Xb... so you can't really fit a bike in the trunk... end less its a small bike (well you can again buy one of those aftermarket bike holders) The engine is only a 1.5 Liter engine and MPG is only 26 to 36.. so you get better gas milage on the xB and a bigger engine... So yeah I would go the the new xB still.

Corolla is good too..., but you would be spending more on this car... the base model runs for 15,995 for auto locks and alarm system probably would boost it up to 16,800. so yeah it will go way over your budget.

do not get a toyota matrix they suck! and + if you do it is a bad car to be in a car accident with you could have a Near-Death Experience of you could dead. my aunt had at car and she dead.

the scions have no power unless you get the scion tc, go with the corolla or get a matrix

a scion tc or a corolla, i prefer the tc

if you want gas millage and A LOT of trunk space...get a matrix!!! it has A LOT of space, and i mean a lot!

Don't buy new, its a waste of cash. Keep what you've got till it starts really showing its age. When you buy a new car it loses alot of its value just by you driving off with it and then over the years it decreases even more. I have a 14 year old car with 126,000 miles on it and the engine is known to last for 200,000-300,000 miles and alot of Japanese cars can. If you bought my car today it would cost you maybe $750-3000 and you could drive it for years and years. Where as you could pay $15,000 for a car that will be worth $10,000 next year in all likelihood.

You want good gas mileage? Look at old Honda Civics and CRXs, 40-50mpg! Which is comparable to the Corolla's.

Think of it this way, if you buy used you can get a car for under $6000 and have $9000 left to fix any small problems, upgrade the stereo, buy a bike rack, fancy aftermarket alarm with remote everything. My car came with everything you listed except the stereo was broken and one of the speakers was blown and I bought a CD player and 4 speakers for like $200 total.
