Kryptonite vs onguard?

Are the U-locks of kryptonite better than onguard? what are the specifics of the 2 brands and locks.
Which brand and lock do you prefer to use?

i am new to biking and i also want to know if i should get a cable lock too.

For a brief lock comparison, please see this website http://www.slate.com/id/2140083/ . If you buy a used lock, be aware of pre-2005 models that can be picked with a ballpoint pen ( http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/n... ). If you buy a new lock, don't worry about this since everything sold today has gone to the flat-key design.

From my experience, Kryptonite and Onguard are both good brands. Onguard is slightly less expensive. Both brands have several different models where higher price is proportional to theft resistance and weight. If you plan to lock your bike outside in New York or in areas where thieves use power tools, then you might want to buy the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit lock. For me this was too expensive for the security I needed.

For general use, I have a DT 5012 Bicycle U-Lock that includes an Extra Security Cable ( http://www.smarter.com/bike-locks/onguar... ) . The cable is very nice for wrapping around my quick-release wheels. For use at work, which has controlled access, guards, and cameras, I use a much lighter, but less theft-resistant, Kryptonite cable lock.

When you finally choose your U-lock, be aware of how you will carry it. They are big and heavy. The review gives poor marks to the Onguard bike bracket due to breakage. For me, I put the lock in my backpack so have never personally experienced those problems. I have seen others carry the lock on their handlebars. On smaller bikes, the bike bracket with U-lock might not fit well.

onguard has the higher consumer rating.

i dont ride my bike anywhere for it to be locked up, but when i had my motorcycle i used a KRYTPTONITE break disk lock....

but when it was stolen they just picked it up and threw it on a truck...

but they couldnt roll it!!!
