How do you provent the sprockets on the back wheel of a bike from locking up???

Sounds like you either didn't maintain your bike and it locked up dur to lack of lubricant or that there is something stuck behind the cassette. Either problem needs a visit to the bike shop.

maintenance...you shouldnt have anything locking up. if they are either there is a bad/worn part or the adjustment is off. soemthing isnt right there. it should never lock up.

I think it's a lot easier not locking up your gears than it is to do so. I guess keep all arms, legs, rake handles etc outta the gears will pretty much work for you.

spray some wd-40 on everything. changeing the tension on the gear cables helps to keep you from getting chain lock sometimes. maybe you should take it to a friend or a shop if it still messes up.
