Can I legally remove an old bike frame that has been sitting locked to some railings for months? |
I see it every day near my work - it has no wheels and the components are corroded - it obviously hasn't been ridden for months as it is always in the same position. No the council must remove it. No its not yours. If its causing an obstruction, you tell the police. But otherwise you leave it be. If it's been there for months with no wheels I'd take it if I were you. Not sure about if it's "legal" but doubt anyone would care... If it's not on your property, it's not legal. And if no one else has stolen it by now, it means it's not worth stealing ! I'd leave it alone... It seems like a bad bike. I'd do it, but wait until about two am. No-one'll be around then anyway. Strictly legal-No. However if common sense suggests its abandoned, unlikely to be reclaimed by the original owner and is an eyesore with sharp edges etc; the authorities aren't going to waste their time prosecuting you. Might come as no surprise but they are fairly busy at the moment and this ain't going to be considered a priority. |
