Its so unfair...?

Well i woke up today to find out i had been robbed... me and my fella had bought ourselves nice bicycles to help us get fit and well, three weeks after we brought them home, they've been stolen.

We live in a posh apparentment block, electric gates on the parking and our own padlocked bike shed... and they managed to get in, bend the metal bike she lock and break the bike chains and off they went.

I phoned the police and they haven't arranged to come round or anything. They simply stated they don't have the man hours to check the CCTV footage.

So now i'm angry.
Angry that i pay for a secure parking area and the appartment not admitting to any responsibility.
Angry that the police have given up before tyring. Angry that i only had them for three weeks.
Angry people can justify it to themselves that they can help themselves to other peoples property.
Angry that people will buy stolen goods.
Angry that someone else is going to enjoy riding my bicycle. Angry they are not insured.

Yes, The police are not interested in helping when things are stolen.

To be fair to the police, there are so many bikes stolen each year they know there is very little hope of getting them back.
Just give them your details and details of the bikes (frame no. colour etc., pic of them) and cross your fingers.

If you live in a secure living area, why dont you claim off their insurance?

I don't blame you for being so angry, so would I be. There's a lot of nasty people out there, and no-one seems to care anymore.

sorry about it - but sumtimes things like this happen. life can really be unfair - but think - what if instead of stealin the bikes they came indoors, and hurt ur man?

It sucks, but bicycles aren't a priority to the police. If the apartment complex agreed in the rental contract to provide security, you might have some recourse in civil court.

i totally understand that you are angry. i really don't understand how people feel to take what isn't theirs and don't even bat an eyelid of remorse!

as for the police, they don't seem bothered by thefts anymore. a fews years back the local "travellers" helped their selves to some of our property and all the police said was there was nothing they could do, and if it was valuable to claim off the house insurance. they didn't even have a drive by to see if the thieves were still hovering, just went about their own business.

unfortunately this is society for you now. you can't have anything nice! if people aren't helping themselves, then they are vandalising it!

There was an item on the telly about bike crime a while back.They tried out various bike locks,cheap ones to very expensive,and they were easily broken.There is a hugh second hand market in bikes.

I would first. Go to local flee market and look for your bikes. If you find them take a picture of them. Then buy them. Call the cops. But have your reciept.


Then i would call your representitive, then a lawyer. ***** to no end that you pay the taxes for police protection.

But lets look at some of your anger:

Why is it the apartments fault? What did they do or not do that caused your bikes to be stolen?

Why are they not insured? Did you choose not to purchase a renters insurance policy? If so - only one you can blame is yourself for that one.

Angry at the police - they are too busy chasing murderers and drug dealers to spend the man power looking for a stolen bike. Maybe this issue should be addressed with your city council -apparently they need to allocate more funds to the police department so more officers can be hired. But let me guess - you complain every time they talk about raising taxes to increase revenue so that the city can use the funds to improve things (such as hiring more police officers).

Be angry at the bad guys who stole your bikes. They are the ones in the wrong here.

yes, you right, it IS unfair and nothing I can say is going to make it any better. I think I would be demanding some form of retribution off your landlords - being that your apartment complex is stated as 'secure' but obviously isn't. You may well not get anywhere with them but it would make you feel better directing your anger at someone. Come and live here in Bulgaria honey. The only people who are ever likely to steal anything off you are the gypsies and your guaranteed to get it returned - plus the police will dispense your anger on the person concerned!

Welcome to the 21st century. We are constantly being told that crime is going down, but like every other govt. statement it is a lie. People on our estate only four doors from us had their front window removed while they were in bed, their car keys taken and their car pinched. A friend of mine had his car pinched and the police simply told him to drive around and find it himself! He did, and by a wild chance the fuel pipe had broke and he found it dumped about a mile away. Crimes seldom get reported in the local papers, and no-one knows what is happening in the next town. The London rags are too busy showing some stupid tarts boobs on the front page to bother about things that really matter to the peasantry, and the upmarket ones are full of money matters and what is happening in some foreign country rather than tell us about the way our own country is going to hell, and it is. The politicians are too busy trying to wangle their way on to the gravy train to care about the people who pay their grossly inflated wages, and If you have the nerve to mention that the police can commit murder and walk free you are told that they have a tough job, and if you mention that virtually all gun crime is carried out by black people then you are a racist. Regarding your theft, I should think that you have a claim against the landlords if they sold you the idea that your property was safe on their expensive estate.

I`m surprised you contacted the pathetic excuse for police we have in this country.

I think the worst part is the service you recieved from the police.
Ive been a cop for years, and i hate it when things like that give us a bad name.
In my counties force we dont attend personally unless there is a possible lead... like cctv evidence.
The reason is there are on average 1 street police officer per 11000 people, and we cant attend every crime.
Sadly, we all know it, life suck sometimes

We gather you are angry, but why didn't you have them insured, it only costs a couple of pounds. Blame yourself and not the Police.

its not just a stolen bicycle....its a felony burglary, and the cops need to show up and get a report....Id get that guys name, and go right over his head, for telling me that........

Well, if the time of the CCTV tape is 8 hours it takes a minimum of 4 to watch it, that's if it is pointing in the right direction and there is enough light to see the faces, then they have to be recognised. At a average of 拢100 per hour (one officer equivalent cost)

So although CCTV is a great tool if the time can be tied down to a short time period, if not it is just not cost effective. Also who owns the CCTV? If it is the management company get them to look at it.

Go back to the police and if they are not going to respond then contact a more senior officer....They have a duty to investigate all crime.....As to man hours that's their seniors responsibility.........If you get no positive action go along the complaints route as you pay council tax and part of this goes to your local police force........Ask the people that run the parking area if there is CCTV footage of the break in....if there is i would take it to the senior officer at the local police station and ask if they would like you to do the investigation for them........Make them do their job don't just accept pathetic excuses
