How do I pick/unlock a 4 digit bike lock? |
Is there any way to unlock a bike lock without breaking it? There is a better way other than the "worst case scenario" and it has to do with the process of elimination. If it is YOUR LOCK then it is likely that somewhere in that brain of yours it is still there. Try every 4 digit number you can think of and you might get lucky. Some 4 digit locks are pretty easy to pick. 1) Set all the numbers to 0 2) Pull the tumbler from each end so there is a little tension on it. This will make the digits a little hard to turn; 3) Turn one of the number wheels at either end until it seems that it "moves around" from side to side in the space that has been created by the tension; 4) Proceed with each number wheel in order, feeling for that bit of side to side movement. 5) If the lock didn't open once you got to the other end, check each number again, this time working backwards until you feel more looseness in the number wheel. If the wheel is already loose, leave it alone because it is likely the correct number and one or more of the others is wrong. This takes a little work, but will usually be successful within a half hour or so if you keep at it. Um, this might sound dumb, but if the lock is wrapped around the seat post and you just want to get it off the bike, just remove the seatpost and the lock will fall on the ground. Source(s): 27 years in the industry. have the key or combination A 4 digit bicycle lock will have 10,000 (0000-9999) different possible combinations. Start at 0000, then 0001, advancing by 1 digit each time, until the correct combination is entered. If each action takes 3 seconds, you will have it opened in worst case scenario - 500 hours. Or go to Home Depot, rent a bolt cutter and have it open in no time. My diseased mind. I'm guessing you forgot your own combination? You're doomed to sit down and try each and every one of its 10,000 combinations quick freeze it and hit it with a hammer |
