How do you break a bike cable lock? |
My bike cable lock has a 4 number combination. My lock doesn't seem to be working on my number I have. I have been trying to unlock my own. However its been unsuccessful. I would like to know how to break my own without the hassle of requesting a locksmith service. Steps would be more appreciated. Pull on the chain either side of the lock applying tension to the lock. turn each wheel of the combination until you 'feel' the mechanism click. Should take you less than 2 minutes. I hate to admit I know the answer to this one. lol A nice old set of 3-4' bolt cutters or a hacksasw will do the trick (actually I'm assuming about the saw, but the bolt cutters WILL work - I guarantee) I know because bolt cutters were used to cut my $50 kryptonite cable lock. Get a U-lock. It is the only kind that the manufacturers will stand behind - with the proper paperwork they will insure them upto a certain amount. work in a bike shop If your personally reset your combination from the factory setting and it now doesn't 'work, you have likely unintentionally reset your combination. Carefully cutting the cable with a hacksaw will be the most expedient method of unlocking your equipment. I say carefully because the cable strands can be incredibly sharp and can easily cut you. If you don't want to destroy your lock you can try turning the lock wheels and eventually you will hit the correct sequence. This is incredibly time consuming. I suppose it all depends on how much time you have. Good luck! |
