I have just bought an expensive new bike, could someone recommend a lock?? |
I'm a biking novice so: 1. Which is the better lock - a cable lock or a D-lock?? 2. I have 拢30 to spend max, could someone recommend a decent lock!? 3. I have 拢20 to spend on a pump, could someone recommend one for shraeder valve tyres which has a pressure guage and doesnt let any air escape when you take the pump off the valve?? Thanks!! 1) A good Kryptonite D-lock is good but expensive. Forget the cheaper stuff. I use a heavy cable with high security padlock, the Onguard Mastiff from www.wiggle.co.uk (拢18). You may need two locks, a cable lock for the front and a chain for the rear. 2) & 3) See above. wiggles.co.uk can also supply all kinds of pump. Also try Decathlon if there's one in your town. You may need 拢30 for a Topeak pump with guage. Hi you can also get a bike alarm, which I feel is a good idea to go along with a able lock. The alarm is under 拢10 and can be found online at the address below. http://www.timani-ltd.com/product_bk015.... Well locks on key is very good. You could go buy one in Kmart. i have one Go with the Kryptonite U-lock. Make sure it is the latest model....the one with orange on it. It is pricey, but it's worth it. No one will be able to steal your bike. For the pump, I recommend a CO2 inflator. It's smaller, and it makes putting air in the tire a snap. Get a good one though. There are cheap inflators out there. Good luck. Congrats on the new bike! A good D or U lock are the best. Well worth the money. You can unhook the front tyre and lock it up with the rear tyre and frame to a good steady anchor (street post, etc.) Also using two locks a good solid U or D lock and a less expensive steel flexible lock could be a good idea. Get a pump you can also take with you in your backpack or whatever you use to carry your extras. It will aid in case of a puncture. I use the Kryptonite New York Bike Chain/Lock - a bit heavy to lug around, but worth it. |
