I have managed to loose the key to my harley bike steering coloum lock any one knows if i can have one cut? |
i do have the vin number and dont really want to start cutting and welding a new lock any ideas welcomed As some of the other posters said, I.D. and a clear title will usually get you a key at the H.D. dealer. **Try another dealership** If your lock is indeed the flat key a skilled locksmith can or should be able to make a key without cutting your lock off. Try another locksmith. One last idea(I've used on Fords) is to find a blank key that fits the lock, using a thin coat of spray paint or a magic marker color the key let the color dry completely. Once dry carefully insert the key and rotate until it hits the pins, they will leave a mark in the color, start filing, test then repeat. This is really just a crude version of what your locksmith could do with an anodized aluminum key used for this purpose. Source(s): BTW Harley has a data base with all the info on your bike on record, how accessible it is to you and I is another story, but Dealers can access it. I dicovered this when one of my bikes was stolen. Load it on to a trailer and take it to a lock smith who will cut a new key. If it's the type that uses a padlock, and you can see the tumbler number and you know the brand name of the lock a smith may be able to cut a key for you. Bro - I am just dying to know why you ain't picked up the phone and called your local HD dealer... I'm thinkin' that if you can prove that ya own the bike that they have some local mobile locksmith who can come over there and do it for ya. In fact, I'm wonderin' if you have the VIN number, if they might not know which key ya need, and be able to hook ya up. as a harley owner, this is blowin enough smoke screen to hide a naval strike force. the engine key and the fork lock key is exactly the same and has been for quite some time. if u have actually lost the key, not only is the forks locked, but u wont be able to start the engine either. when i picked up my bike, the dealer gave me 2 keys. get out the 2nd key and ur in business. while ur at it, head to the dealer and have them cut another key. '05 XL1200R roadster sportster owner the dealer may have a record of your key. try that a locksmith will be able to pick it for about 100 |
