Should I put a lock holder on a Trek 2100 carbon frame? |
I have a bike lock that i like to keep on my bike. The holder is latched onto the frame. It locks tightly on the frame and i am worried it will screw up my new trek 2100 carbon frame. Should i be worried? I know the bike. The first answer was referring to the newer Trek 2100s- which are aluminum frames. However, according to my Felt's carbon frame, nothing should be clamped onto a carbon frame. My LBS confirms this as well. Your best bet is to buy a cheap bike that you can ride to places if you think that you'll need to lock your bike up. Although that's an older road bike, it's still a nice, exotic frame- not too many of those left. These were Trek's first inhouse carbon frames. Owning a Trek 2300 myself, and the frames being basically the same, I can say that the frame on a 2100 isn't carbon fiber, the seat post and the forks are, but that is all. Either way just make sure not to over tighten when installing the holder onto the frame. Owning Trek bicycles. I have an older Trek 2100. The main tubes are carbon. If your "new" Trek is an older used one I personally would not do it. Even alum or steel can be damaged on nicer, light frames. Light frames have very thin tubes and while they may look substantial there are relatively delicate. You should be worried about that. I would never do it. For the love of carbon fiber, never leave your bike unattended. I think the more important question is "should I be locking up my Trek 2100?" I would tend to say no. I don't want anyone to steal your carbon bike. You have a nice frame. Why weigh it down? I have had an older 2300 (carbon frame) and a newer 2300 (alum frame). I wouldn't let either out of my sight! |
