What's the best type of bicycle lock? |
What's the best type of bicycle lock? Kryptonite or Onguard, both offer "insurance" if the bike is stolen while using their locks (with certain models of course) A U lock. I would recommend OnGuard brand U-Locks, my friends and I spent about 45mins trying to crack one (not theft, we work in a bike shop). They are almost impossible to break, unless you have a blow torch and bolt cutters handy, and plenty of time without getting seen. Also, if you lock your bike up correctly (lock through frame, attached to something un-movable) and it does get stolen, if you send OnGuard the police report/other proof of theft, they will buy you a bike up to a certain amount, depending on the lock, anywhere from $1500-$2000. I would also recommend using a U-Lock through your rear wheel and seat tube to the thing you're locking too, and then either taking your front wheel with you, or locking it to the U-Lock with a cable. Another good way to keep your bike from being stolen is to A) Lock it up next to a bike that is much more expensive/better looking than yours and B) Lock it up next to an unlocked/weakly locked bike Kryiptonite NYC fahgetboutit U-LOCK w/ NYC chain. or the Evolution Mini |
