Whats the lightest bike in the world, and how much does it cost?

M2 Racer weighed 7.84 lbs using the Lightspeed Ghisallo road frame and the lightest components money can buy. I don't believe that it was never sold to the public but all of it's components seem to add up to over $25,000. Imagine what a custom production bike like that would cost if you include the cost of labor. Crazy!!! Still, most cyclists couldn't ride it because the durability issue would play a major role here.

A German Bloke, G眉nter Mai released the worlds lightest bike this year. Weighing a mere 3195 grams. (a tad over 7lb)

He modified close to everything to be as light as possible. The cost has not been disclosed but the wheels alone are rumoured to have cost $15 000.

To silence the "flimsy and useless" critics he started riding it around 1000 km (620 m) a week (I've seen figures as high as 13000 km so far stated in forums.)

The lightest production frame at present is the Litespeed Ghisallo (Titanium by the way) starting at 765grams (1.69lb) for the small size. So if you wanted to put together an "Off the shelf" super light bike that would be where to start. You could probably get lightspeed to put on your choice of components. If you want to throw money at it.

Just to put this into a bit of perspective. UCI Rule # 1.3.019, states that a bike must have a minimum weight of 6.8 kilograms (14.99 pounds). So Mr Mai's bike is less than half the weight that he is allowed to race on. Most quality bicycle manufacturers can sell you a bike under this weight limit. Riders are adding things like power meters to bring their bike back up to minimum weights.

10 grand should get you close to minimum legal weight.

While I would be happy to own any of these bikes the reality is they would be wasted on me.

********down thumbs from me? No,very rarely ever*******

I think there is a 9 pound (4kg) bike around... I forget the brand but it is completely custom built right down to the spokes. If I recall, it is in excess of $30,000 (about 15,000 GBP) and takes about a year from order to delivery.

I personally wouldn't trust it to ride it too often.

road bike wise a few yrs ago i think it was a pinnarello but that doesnt make it the best, summin i think like the trek madone with all the trimmings is really light and cost about 拢10k for the top model! mtb wise not a clue.
