Bike lights that flicker are they legal? |
or do you have to have lights that stay on as you ride back home at night? Those back red flickering ones. If you're in the UK - I suggest you read the relevant Highway Code page here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTra... State laws may vary, but a red taillight and a steady white headlight are required before sunrise and after sundown. Sometimes during the day if it's foggy, I'll run my headlight on flash so the cars can see me better. And I always run a red flasher day or night. As far as I know, there are no laws against flickering lights on bicycles. But, do check with your local municipality. I know that when I'm in the car at night and I see a cyclist with a red rear flasher, it IS an attention getter. Blue lights are illegal on motorvehicles only. I'm not aware of them being illegal anywhere.....if they were, they wouldn't be sold in that locality anyway. They're certainly safer than a steady rear light. It helps to get a motorist's attention, and at this point most people associate flickering lights with pedestrians or cyclists anyway, which is a plus. O'behive, it is not illegal to have flikering lights on a bike but it in illegal not to have a front white light and a rear red light when it is dark. I have been arrested for it when I was a kid and known ever since. only some are road legal to BS Standards. in some cases if you were involved in an accident and had flashing led lights which did not meet BS Standards then you would in fact be in breach of the law and would not be eligible to claim compensation from a driver if their lawyers discovered your lights were not to BS Standards. um, of course they are legal, thats why they sell them.. |
