How green or energy efficient are you?

Do you flip the switch when you leave the room?
Do you recycle?
Do you carpool or walk/ride bike?
Have you bought energy efficient light bulbs?
What are some other things you have done?

Thanks to my husband I can say that YES, I am green :O).

We changed all the light bulbs of the house and use those spiral ones that are energy efficient. We also turn the light off when we leave a room. My husband has also started unplugging our major applicances each night (TV, cable box, coffee machine, microwave, etc...), God bless him because I couldn't keep up.

We definitely recycle our newspapers, plastic, metal, glass etc... We do NOT use store plastic bags when we go grocery shopping, we use our own tote bags.

The next big thing that we are planning to do is trade our car for a hybrid. We hope to do this within the next 6 months or so.

My husband and I are slowly trying to do our parts to take better care of our planet. I think it has become necessary and everyone should pitch in. It's easy and fun.

The best thing of it all is that our electric bill has gone considerably down and we just feel good about what we do :)

I have to watch it or I get obsessive!!!
Save money on electric -- A power surge stops all current to the TV and to the computer systems. Pull the plug on the microwave. I'm always turning off lights, anywhere. Cell phone recharged at work. Use energy efficient bulbs and appliances (ie.. a/c, frige), do wash at the laundromat in the double loaders.

Reduce/reuse/save money -- buy fresh produce (cheaper) without the wrappings or return styrofoam and plastic containers to the farmer's market (saves them money too), bring my own bag to shop, donate plastic bags to the church food pantry or return plastic bags to the recycle bin at my grocery store (It's a new law for supermarkets), use plastic storage containers, wash & reuse refrigerator bags, reuse plastic water bottles (also saves money on buying the water).

I won't start on water-saving projects, recycling,
"Freecycling" , "Build it Green", scrap metal,
donating to goodwill/salvation army, garage sales etc...

Whew!!!!

I have my own power source, using an energy idea that I developed and built myself, it is 100% self-contained, pollution-free and safe for the environment and you never have to feed it. Not solar or wind or any of the known types of energy producing systems, and it works just fine.

I can leave all the lights on in my place, run the air conditioning 24/7 and not have to pay any money at all.

Maybe one day I will market it to countries that want to build nuclear power plants. This energy source is very easy to operate and it produces more then enough pure electricity then I can ever use in my entire lifetime.

Yes we turn the lights off when we leave the room
Yes we recycle
Can't car pool live in a rural area however we have Saturn's that are safe and get great mileage. We do ride bike for recreation and I am big on not having powered toys for our children I want them to exercise and stay healthy.
He have all energy efficeint lights accept for our garage which we seldom use.

Other things, We updated our hot water heater, we have up to date washing machine and dryer both are much more efficient then the older ones. We replaced the stove with a more efficient stove. We have a up to date dish washer however we only use every other day to ensure we save energy and do full loads rather then partial. Plus I do not mind helping out with the dishes. We updated the AC which saved us a lot the older one was very inefficient. We only use when necessary. I am remodeling and we have added insulation to keep the house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The next thing I would like to invest in when I have the house finished is Solar Power.

Hope this helps

Yes I do flip the switch when I leave the room if I am the only person in it. I don't leve others in the dark.
Yes I do recycle.
I walk/ ride a bike to most places.
Yes
Other things don't put in bin given to charity shops, Used bags for life in the supermarket, had no carrie bag in one store and put it in a carrie bag with something else.

yes I flip the switch when I leave the room and right after others leave the room and it drives everybody nuts at my house. I recycle and have energy efficient light bulbs. That's about it, I don't really unplug everything that I don't use and I still use plastic bags when I go to the grocery store BUT I recycle them by using them as trash bags!

i try really hard to be "green". i take my paper bags to the grocery store when I shop. i recycle. have cut down on driving ( more due to the cost of gas), use compact fluorescent bulbs. have a digital thermostat set on energy star.
What gets me is that almost everything i buy here is packaged in so much plastic. i have a real problem with plastic. there is so much of it, that there is a town near me that won't accept plastic in recycling because there is no demand for it.
I saw on Nightline a few weeks ago about how much plastic is concentrated in the Pacific ocean due to currents. It is alarming. plastic pellets, about the size of large sand grains are washing up like "sand" on beaches in the Pacific. this is very scary to me. if we upset the balance in the Oceans, it will have catastrophic results for generations to come.
That is my rant for the day. Thanks.

Green is only a marketing slogan that will make these large companies even richer. It is way overused. The pattern of global warming is based on a million year history, not a hundred years like they are trying to tell you. Yes the earth is 1 degree warmer in the last 20 years, but it will eventually cool off that 1 degree. I would be more worried about an asteroid hitting us in 2026 than melting polar ice caps. Green Shmean.

light bulbs for sure.
ive been growing my own tomatoes on the balcony and using all of my wet garbage food scraps as compost, so i produce less waste and get free plant food, not to mention save money on groceries.
i dont take the car out for just one thing, instead when i have to get groceries or gas or whatever errands i have to run, ill just hold off until i have to take the car out then do them all on the way.
i always thought it was silly when people have to "go and get gas" and then come right back home. it isnt like theres a shortage of gas stations.

How green or energy efficient are you?
Not that much.

Do you flip the switch when you leave the room?
Usually

Do you recycle?
No

Do you carpool or walk/ride bike?
No

Have you bought energy efficient light bulbs?
Yes

What are some other things you have done?
Use Freecycle.org alot!

I turn all sockets off when not being used, don't leave any lights on, have energy efficient light bulbs, use cotton carrier bags, use ecover (eco friendly) cleaning products, m currently lobbying my council to give me recycling facilities, because i live in flats they havent figured out how to let us recycle yet... i still recycle though, just hae to take it up to my mums house, where she has a recycling box.

I am very efficient! I flip the switch when I leave the room. I recycle and don't leave water running. I also don't have a slew of spawn when I can't afford to take care of adding to the 6 1/2 billion on this planet that keep breathing. See!

i turn off any light that im not using
iam using those energy efficent light bulbs
i walk morethan use the car
switched stores to have greener items in our house..things you would use on a daily basis(cleaners, personal, cosmetics, etc)

I partake in pollution everyday in my twenty fo inch dubbed monsta truck and i leave the water running when i brush my teeth and top it off with spraying can after can of hairspray for fun.

working on the light bulbs i am trying to go green all the way but i guess it takes time
