Motorcycle won't start, no lights, won't turn over...fried the battery when charging it.what can i do? |
I tried starting my bike up after it sat during the winter and got the pos/neg mixed up when charging it and it blew. I bought a new battery and installed it but still nothing. When I turn the bike on, nothing happens...lights don't come on, doesn't turn over...like it is dead. 2006 Suzuki GS500F Obviously you fried the electrical system too. You blew out the electronics The fact that even the lights are not working points to a main "power failure". Take a good look at the battery connections and look for a main fuse. The easiest way is to follow the positive wire from the battery and look for a fuse or fusable link. Unless some of the battery acid did some damage, you've probably just blown the main fuse. Check the owner's manual for location. If after replacing the blown fuse you have lights, but no crank, it may be you've run the battery down while testing. The simple test is to jump it [properly] from a running vehicle. Contrary to Urban Legend, it is completely safe to jump start a 12V motorcycle from a 12V car. If the jump start works, your battery needs charging; take the bike for a long [over 30 miles] ride. |
