I want to get a trials bike?

i've seen the trials bikes and i am really interested. i want to get a good beginners bike, but something that can take a good bit of abuse. i'll probably just be playing around at my local skatepark (which doesn't have anything biger than a six foot drop-in) and doing some tricks at home, bunnyhopping 180s, ect, ect. i'm in the states and i cant find any here, also i'm not near any bike shops :-( the big problem is money!!! i only have a couple of hundred dollars, if that, to spend. but i really want to find one, especialy one of the really light ones, the ones that are around 6 lbs, but again, it needs to be very sturdy and durible, as i do a lot od jumps at the park. thanks for any help.

Well....I'm sorry to say, but you won't even find a used stock trials bike for $200. Trials frames and parts are very specialized, and not cheap. I've seen some used rigs go for $400 to $500 on the low end, but most will be more expensive. I don't think you can get into the new bikes for less than $1000.

The best site in the US for the bikes and parts is www.webcyclery.com .....they're in Oregon. Super nice guys and very knowledgable. You can check out what they have to offer. You might even shoot Todd an email to see if they know of any used ones for sale cheap.

Another thing you could do is get a bmx bike and modify it as you want to. That's where trials bikes got their start, really. It's not ideal, but it's a great way to learn some of the basics and the frames are pretty similar in geometry. Get one of the Pro XL sizes with a long top tube and change out the bars. Or save up all the money you can and get the bike you want later on. :o)
