Is the following bicycle manouvere legal in the UK, or could I get busted for it?

Recently I have taken to:

At a red light at an empty pelican crossing, to dismount from my bike before the white line at approxmately 13-15mph and to continue forward, running while pushing my bike, then, several metres after the pelican crossing, to re-mount my bicycle at speed and cycle off.

Yes, it's illegal for cyclists to commit these acts and it's also extremely dangerous.

If your caught by a Police Officer you can be given a 拢30 fixed penalty fine. Failing to stop for an officer is also an arrestable offence.

Some CCTV cities will be issuing fines for parking and traffic offences using video footage from 31 Mar 2008.

even to push a normal cycle through a red light is illegal so yes .....

you could get done for it but it would be a tight cop that does although I have known it to happen to someone I used to work with. However If you pick the bike up then it is no longer wheeled transport so you are not able to be prosecuted or fined in any way for that it is not as fast as what you are doing right now but it is legal and you get to run the lights all be it on foot carrying the bike

i cycle thru red lights all the time and ive never been 'busted' lol

also cycled drunk, high, and on the footpath

also i never wear a helmet and always have my ipod on (both ears)

lol

You're still guilty!!

What you have to do is dismount, take yourself and carry your bike onto the pavement. Whilst carrying your bike, move forward to the other side of crossing (beyond the zig-zags), replace the bike on the road, remount and pedal away.

As a road user and on the public highway, if you pass through a red light with a vehicle (including a bicycle), you're committing an offence.

whats the point why don't you wait for a green light

It's not legal

As a cyclist!I cannot add anything more than what has been said!

you are guilty of jumping a red traffic light and deserve to be flogged

Technically it is still an offence to propel a vehicle past the stop line at a red light. Whether you do this by running along pushing it or by pedelling it makes no difference.

In practice the Police are not all that likely to do anything about someone pushing a bicycle past a red light provided it is not creating a risk of an accident.

However, they might well consider that jumping off or onto a bicycle at 15mph amounted to dangerous cycling, so you might get a penalty ticket for that.
