My son is turning 5.....?

i plan to take him to orlando to islands of adventure and then the day of his birthday give him a party at the house.. i am gonna buy him a 80 dollar bike and 130 dollar light saber (that he's dyeing for)... he is my only child, but is this too much... i have a tendency to go overboard..

If you can afford it, then its not too much. Some might say he will get spoiled, but if you raise him right he wont be. Have fun. Sounds like yall will have a blast!!!!

if u have that much money get both but i would get him the 80$ bike then later get him the light saber.. but if u get him both.. then he will think he can get what ever he wants all his life..

A 130 $ light sabor? Wow, just make sure you are not mad at him in case he breaks it, after all he probably will do some fighting with that thing.
And if it is normal for you to spend about 500 $ for a birthday, then you are not overboard, I mean that depends on your budget and money entirely, not our opinion. :-)

I don't think it's too much at all. I have three that I go extremely overboard with every chance I get birthday or not. I don't think it's "spoiling" your child. If you are capable of doing it then go for it and he'll always remember this special day! As long as your son doesn't expect it from you all the time and doesn't turn out to be a lil brat!!!!

Hay he is your son and you love to see him happy. I would think about the light saber tho. He only going to want to hit something.

if u have the money and always have that kind of money. He wont understand down the road why one day you can afford to give him all of this and then te next day you cant afford anything. Just make sure not to spoil him outside of what you can always do. My daughter is 4 and she is my only child and I do the same things for her. She is still good, not spoiled. She has manners and listens and knows when mommy says no thats the end

I think that if you discipline him when he needs it, then giving him gifts is not a big deal...even if they are large scale. It won't necessarily spoil him. Obviously you should not give gifts to make up for quality time.
If it was me, I would also make a point of packing up old toys at certain times of the year to give to needy children, just so he realizes that some kids are less fortunate...and he will appreciate your gifts more, and become more generous.

It's all good

no. but limit it [birthdays and christmas] to 2 expensive preasants. rest of the year OCCASIONALLY buy him little gifts like toy cars ect. then he knows if he's a good buy he will get brilliant preasants and wont be spoilt
