CBR125 engine cutting out. I hate this stupid machine!!?

I really hope someone can help me on this one before Im forced to take it to the local garage/dealers and get charged a small fortune for what could possibly be a very teeny thing to fix.
The scenario:
cbr125, nice and spanky, 2006 model, 2500 miles, careful and only slightly fatty-bottomed lady owner.
Tonight whilst making the 6 mile journey home, the bike cut out for seemingly no reason whatsoever after about a mile. The lights stayed on, just the engine died. The bike started first time and I got all of 500 yards before it did it again. As its minus 35 degrees (or what feels like it) outside, I didnt have the heart to push it home, so I picked it up and put it in my handbag. (or brothers transit van.)
Im having a few guesses and will attempt to stare at my haynes manual until my eyes dry out tomorrow, but if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be eternally greatful!
Tanky poo. x

Oh, and just before some smartypants says something, I had a full tank of petrol.
Pff.

Hi, could be as simple as the engine was cold, your bike is a liquid cooled fourstroke, and maybe you took the choke off too quick.
Maybe you left the choke on too long and it stalled when it got hot.
Maybe the fuel tap was off.
crap in the fuel tank from petrol pumps that gets in the carb.
Water droplets in your carb.
fouled or defective sparkplug
faulty sparkplug cap- shorts out in damp.
Faulty ignition coil.

I think your bike doesnt have a fuel tap but a fuel pump?

Hey, if you don't want that bike, ship it over and I'll race it here in the States. We have a couple now that are racing two that they bought in Japan. Nice bike.

I had the same problem with my MZ 125SM. I think it's the pilot jet and I need to rebuild my carb.

cheers

You may very well have had a full tank of petrol but did you open the fuel tap properly.Simple enough mistake to make.

if its a two stroke, u need a new spark plug $2, the same thing happened on a 2 mile trip on my yamaha dirtbike, motor popped then stopped, after a bunch of kickes it fired for 30 seconds. I put in a new plug and it ran fine, keep a spare with u

This happened to me too while riding my Ninja 500. It would start up, go, then just cut off like somebody flipped the engine kill switch. It turned out my battery didn't have a good enough connection with the teminals. Pop your seat and check that out too (along with the other advice the people above me gave)

You say the bike has 2500 miles on the clock, when was it last serviced? It may be something as simple as the spark plug needing to be changed. Because the lights stayed on I suspect there is is not problem with the starting and running electrics. Was it damp when you were driving? If so its possible that the HT lead has got wet and shorted out. Check the condition of the lead for damage and if its OK give it a spray with WD40.
Ja.

Deposits can be left in your tank if it has been filled any time with a jerry can. Probably some is clogging up your filter or carb, clean out should do (tank, new filter, carb). You do not have to get rid of the existing fuel just a small amount where the deposits are. Bleed the rest of the fuel out of the system.

Idle too slow, when slowing down at a junction it cuts out? Increase idle speed to a normal state.

Was the choke left on even a wee bit as this can make the engine die or seem weak when running.

Service it regularly
