I want a motorcycle as my first vehicle.?

This will not just be my first motorcycle but also i haven't owed a car. I want something cheap. and i want a easy to ride. gas powered. nothing that looks stupid (like a moped). I live in canada. it snows in the winter. i need something that will be able to get thought a light snow. can you suggest a easy to ride bike and tell me the price of it. (new or used).

i have the required licenses to operate a motorcycle.

Snow can be a big problem. Water, gravel, oil, holes and other obstacles are bad enough. Add snow and ice (which are even worse) and you can expect to lay down the bike regularly.

But ---- In the nice weather times, NOTHING can beat riding the bike.

So --- get the bike! But you should also get a little cheapo car for the times of bad weather.

Or --- you could move to coastal BC where snow is at a minimum. A lot of rain though.

Now for the type of bike. Check out this year's Kawaski Ninja 250. Great beginner bike. And it's inexpensive compared to others.

stick to 4 wheels because 2 wheels is asking for trouble in ice and snow conditions. Once you are more experienced on the roads then maybe consider it. You don't want to end up one of the people who don't make it home. Not only do you have to contend with the road conditions in winter you also have to contend with the chill around your face and your visor on you helmet fogging up all the time

first you have to find out if Canada requires you
to have a regular drivers license for a car. you
said you don't own a vehicle.

if you get a moto for your first you can get a good used honda, yamaha, kawasaki, suzuki for about 900.00$, but where your girlfriend gonna ride in the cold? get a car first then a bike for fun.

First - My expectation is that you will have to have a valid driver鈥檚 license before you can get your motorcycle license or endorsement.

Second - I would advise both Driver education and Rider's education classes. But especially for your motorcycle - Take the Class!

Most motorcyclists do not start out planning to ride in snow and ice. I understand that this is Canada, but still. I have known a few in Wyoming who did this, but they spent and certain amount of time on their sides sliding down the road. But their attitude was that this was normal. That would not be "my" attitude, because sliding down the road on your side leaves way too variables NOT in my control.

Since it likely to fall down and go "boom" from time to time, you will want something that will take a certain amount of punishment and both get back up and keep on going, and be cheaper and easier to fix when this happens.

So - I am recommending a Dual Sport bike like: Honda Transalp, XR650L, XR400, or XR200R, Kawasaki KLX300, KLR 650, KTM 950 Adventure, Suzuki DR200SE, DRS350, Yamaha WR250X, etc. Get your self a copy of Cycle Trader magazine at the local 7/11 store and start shopping.

And then equip it with every guard you can find: handlebar wind deflectors and bar end guards, case savers, and crash bars, etc. Most dual sport bikes have turn signals that are flexibly mounted, and for what you are planning this will be a basic requirement.

Good Luck! :-)
