Want to bring motorcycle into house to carry out maintenance at night.? |
I want to bring my bike into the house to work on it because I have no lighting in the shed. My wife thinks this is a bad idea and says I can't because I might leave a mess. Is this fair ? i am female. my dad did it all the time. his work room was on the 1st floor so he had to get it up and down a flight of stairs. mum turned a blind eye. he did always clean up any mess and was careful about the wallpaper.prove you can do it , show respect for your home and then you should be ok. your wife must likemotorbikes( if only secretly) otherwise she wouldnt have put up with you so far. talk her round. its valentines day tomorrow, use the day wisely, good luck.. from fiona p. hope you got your wish. x Report It years ago my friend brought his MC into spare br to rebuild...she should be happy to know where he is at night,,,maybe his next wife will be more understanding No dude - she is wrong - I did the same to my Triumph - lovingly restored in the lounge - and bedroom - oh! and the kitchen. Dump the wife. [just kidding] I would kick my man out if he tried to bring his bike indoors..all that oil and muck?...no way!! It's not fair, but you are the one that let her move in the house in the first place. put sheets down and just be careful of the walls with ya oily mitts! but i love my bikes so I'm maybe more accepting as i stripped many down in my bedroom as a teenager! I've done mine in the house without making a mess just laid a packing blanket down under the bike What you need to buy is a packet of those "stick-on" lights. Place them where you like, press "on" and da da daaaaaaa you have light in your shed. my ex completely rebuilt a bike in our (first-floor) kitchen; including starting it up to test it (with the windows closed - duh!) and paint-spraying the tank It depends on if you have a spare room with the ability to ventilate. If you do, you can bring it in (after you've put down the appropriate floor protection) and do your repair without any ill effects on domestic tranquility as long as you do it quickly and get the bike out as soon as the job is complete. I did the same with a complete engine overhaul of my service car's four-cylinder when I was younger and first married. If you don't have the extra space, or the other requirements (especially the quick turnaround time) do not try it. It will be more than your wife can stand, and you will certainly regret it for many cold nights. I had a motorcycle in my bedroom for a whole winter, and the bike didn't complain once. I suspect choices are "fix bike in shed" or "divorce"!! run a drop cord and bring a light out to your shed dude you'ld be better off doing it that way trust me 15 years of marrige i do it all the time ,if any one don't like it that's just to damn bad! my first bike i built in my basement and kitchen and living room. made a little mess but its just like anything else, if you keep on top of the mess it is manageable. put down thick drop cloth or scrap carpet to catch oil and gas and gunk. Of course it'll leave a mess you moron! You wouldn't bring you car's engine in the house and work on it would you? Well, you might, but a normal person wouldn't. Why don't you just go buy a light for your shed? If you pay bills too, its your place too, put down a drop cloth and drip pan and do your maintenance. If you do leave a mess, clean it up, whats the big deal. I just do it if it was me. Goodluck!! Did you ever think about working on it in the daylight? That would solve all problems. Or like someone else said, get an extension cord, cheaper than new wall to wall carpeting Married Life can suck at times ,When I was single I would ride the bike right into the living room and thought nothing of it, The first time I did it after getting married my wife came home from work to see a Bike parked in the living room and thought I had lost my mind . . Cant remember if she was more mad about that are the cute little blond posing for pictures on it Probably better to light the shed. How inconsiderate of her! I'm still paying for changing wheel bearings on the kitchen table probably before a lot of you were born. Didn't make many dents, and the grease is good for the wood, surely . . . . get an electrical cable extension reel and connect in the house to give light in the shed, only cost pennies.job done.Other alternative---move into shed. been building choppers in my living room forever!!!! I'm doing this right now myself. Lots of what I did cannot be done inside, like washing with solvents, polishing, etc. So it is entirely her decision then? Is it just her house or both of yours? If you stick it in the middle of the lounge in front of the TV then that maybe insensitive. If it is someplace that will cause as little inconvnience as possible then tell her that you are going to do it, explain the reasons why and say that if it becomes a real pain then you may think again. Don't take forever to do it, so what's the big deal? I would say that yes she is being unfair and is making a judgement based on something that she has not experienced. I assume she knew you were a biker when she married you so what did she expect - lol. I am just glad that my missus and I don't dictate to each other one what can and can't be done. I built a bike in the back bedroom of my old flat. It's ok if you're really careful. The only mess I made was a big black skid mark on the lino when I rode it down the stairs. You're lucky, you got a shed. Might leave a mess? Will leave a mess! Trust me, I made the mistake of letting my ex do the same, and we had oil and dirt everywhere. If you value your relationship - don't do it! I'm sorry you have no lighting in your shed by the way. |
