I'm sticking with the 2 stroke, because....?

no matter which bikes get the fastest lap times ( out of 2 strokes and 4 strokes) I'll always miss that explosive acceleration out of the gate. and i don't race, i just ride for fun and do big jumps. I'm not real fast. so i just want that punchy power delivery and light weight manuverabilty. but i'm gonna get an FMF pipe to hopefully give my yz 250 a little more bottom end push. which pipe (fatty, sst, gnarly ,ect.) will give me a boost in the mid range rpm and maybe even low range rpm without sacrificing any of the power in the peak rpm. basically i want to lose nothing and gain something. I know it's almost impossible but how can i keep that top end wild uncontrolable power but also add a little pep to the step of the lower rpms?

you are right rotus,
that's what i was afraid of. i was hoping some mechanical expert could share some trade secret with me that is all gain no loss

I prefer 2 strokes as well and I am guessing when you mean the extra push you men the powerband kikcing in that is a rush for sure!.

because the pipe is an integral part of timing the exhaust on a 2 stroke, you will lose something.

you can find pipes that will give you a broader power band but you should also look at changing the jets, porting, timing and cogs
try changing cogs to give more acceleration you lose some top end speed but its more usable for jumps and you should find it pulls better from lower revs
sadly there is always a trade off but if you don't need those last 10/15 mph you should find it gets to 75/80mph a lot quicker

if you want bottom end go with the gnarly pipe also look into getting some aftermarket reeds like v-force if you haven't already that will help a lot. also if you want to go really crazy you can you can get a high compression piston but that costs a lot and lowers the reliability some

There is nothing wrong with riding a 2 stroke as long as you don't plan on winning any motocross races on it. 2 strokes are a freakin blast to ride and you have probably the best 2 stroke on the planet. In 2006 the members of the Thumpertalk.com forum (4 stroke riders obviously) picked the YZ250 as the bike of the year so that says a lot. I ride a 2006 YZ250 from time to time and I think the low end is great with the stock pipe personally. I wouldn't waster my money.

Not if they also use a normal lamp too. To use just a flashing light is dangerous and illegal on a bike on the road at night.
