Dodge 1500 4.7 liter 4x4? |
How underpowered are these trucks. I only do light towing, usually two motocross bikes in the back and a small pop up camper in tow. Should I be leary of buying one with the 4.7? I have a 2004 with the 4.7L and I wish I had gone with the 5.7L. The gas mileage between the tow is negligible and the power/torque difference is much better in the HEMI. The 5.7L can tow about 1400lbs more on average than the 4.7L. Don't get me wrong, the 4.7L is a great engine, and I've never had an issue with it in 40,000 miles, but you'll be much happier with the 5.7, especially if you tow even a little bit. Hope that helps. 4.0 liter towes my horses. my dads Yamaha 225 and My Raptor 350. we tow our camper. ITS FINE!!! we have a GMC. but dodge has it goin on when it comes to towing!! we pulled an RV with my grandfathers 07 4.0 liter Dodge 1500. NOTTA PROBLEM!!! its 4x4 if you want a full size truck might as well get the hmi or cummins. the 4.7 does great in the dakota but have heard people talked about how it lags in the power department. now the new 4.7 dodge is comming out will have like 295 HPcomapred to the 235 of the 1st generation 4.7. so if thats in the ram it might be worth it to get it. i used to own a 2002 ram 1500 with the 4.7, i towed a u-haul trailer with couches, washer/dryer, numerous boxes etc. It towed alot better than i thought it would. I traded it in for an 05 1500 hemi, hemi has alot more power. but the 4.7 isnt too bad of an engine. I would go with the hemi, or the 5.9 liter. The 4.7 will tow what you have, but it's always good to have that extra power in case something comes up where you would need to tow more. if the previous owner took care of the truck you should have no problems They're not really underpowered at all. They have the bigger crank. The oil capacity is 6.5 quarts. I own a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab SLT 4x4 with the 4.7L V8 Magnum and have plenty of power and torque. |
